“It’ll be interesting going forward to see how companies continue to try and blend the digital and physical utility of their NFTs, and it’s a trend we are going to see continue in a big way.”
📖 Prologue
gm gm and happy belated Halloween from us at EightBit! Around roughly ten years or so ago, cryptocurrency as a technology was still a pretty new idea that was just starting to gain traction in niche groups online. It’s still very new even all these years later, but back then, people still weren’t even sure if blockchain technology was here to stay or just a passing fad. Luckily, there weren’t a thousand different blockchains and tokens and NFTs to trade back then; if you thought crypto was going to survive, you simply bought Bitcoin. Luckily because you had a way to bet on the emerging tech itself rather than which horse would win the race.
As time passed, it continued to become apparent that crypto was here to stay. Along came Ethereum, which not only utilized blockchain technology and built upon what Bitcoin did, but it also enabled people to create ‘apps’ and all other sorts of things that were enabled by smart contracts. If you believed that smart contracts were going to be the future, then you simply bought Ethereum to represent that. You started to see other blockchains pop up with their own smart contracts, but we were still nascent enough that you could still bet on “the tech” by buying just one or two coins - namely Bitcoin and Ethereum.
With DeFi summer and NFT season, things continued to evolve even more. Suddenly, it was DeFi or NFT projects that were coming up with new ideas, and largely, this is why money flowed there. With each new technological achievement, value would return to the project that came up with the idea, and then a bunch of different iterations would pop up in various other projects, ultimately enabling everyone to win together when it came to utilizing new creations in the space. I bring all this up because…
🪞 Magic Mirror
In the not-so-distant future, Magic Mirror is going to go live, enabling our community to interact with their Bits like never before. We are so excited to share Magic Mirror with you, and we know you are going to love it as much as we do! If you’re not familiar with what Magic Mirror is exactly, check out the previous newsletter we put out on the topic here:
With Magic Mirror, however, owners will have the chance to change their Bit’s appearance at a contract level - effectively minting a new Bit which will be visible on OpenSea and other marketplaces. This new Bit will have updated metadata to include all of the changes you made! For example, if you have a biggie sweater in your loot, and you equip it on your Bit and utilize the Magic Mirror, your “new” Bit will have the biggie sweater trait!
Speaking of which - with how close our team is to Magic Mirror, we are going to hold off on our upcoming weekly spaces until it’s ready to go. Instead, you can join us during our EightBit Weekly Voice Chat on Wednesdays at 12PM PST to talk all things EightBit, NFT, Crypto, and life! While we are on the subject…
Weekly Voice Chat
Our first Discord weekly call took place last week on Wednesday, October 26th in the verified holders voice chat. We’re happy to report that it was a resounding success, and it even turned into some impromptu friendly gaming as we discovered the activities feature in voice chat!
🫂Featured Community Member: @jpegsupreme
A big shoutout to this week’s featured community member, @jpegsupreme, for taking some time out of his day to speak with us!
Let’s start with the basics. Providing as much or as little information as you’d like, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you entered the web3 space.
What's up EightBit fam! My name is Patrick, I’m 31 years young, and live in New York! I work in tech sales so that is my main occupation for the time being.
I got into web3 from a friend, who was also my best man at my wedding. He is now my worst man because Web3 is an absolute rabbit hole. I got into Web3 I think around December 2021.
What is the origin/meaning behind your username on Twitter/Discord?
The origin behind my username for Twitter and Discord really just comes down to my love for crunch wrap supremes. Huge Taco Bell guy. Figure since we trade jpegs, and I love Crunchwrap supremes, why not make that my username? It's stupid but I like it.
How did you stumble upon EightBit and identify it as a project/community that you wanted to be a part of?
I stumbled upon EightBit on Twitter I think in March or April. I believe I got in around .2-.3. The community is fantastic and I’ve meshed well with the core group since the beginning. I’m not as active on Discord as I used to be due to work, life, and marriage (classic) but I always pop my head in to see how things are.
What other NFTs do you hold and believe in?
Another project I hold and believe in is Renga. I got in super early there with The Art of Seasons. I knew DR was a great artist so Renga would be a hit. The community is great over there as well.
What are two of your favorite movies and why?
My two favorite movies are Step Brothers and Super Bad. I have fond memories of watching Super Bad drunk in HS in movie theaters when it came out in 08 or 09 I believe. The movie is just hilarious and was very relatable since it premiered when I was in HS. Step Brothers is another favorite because it's just an absolute comedic classic to me. I love Will Ferrel.
What is your favorite video game from your childhood and why does it stand out to you?
My favorite video game when I was a child was Warcraft III Frozen Throne. I used to be an addict. I would play 6-8 hours at a time. I was ranked in the double team actually back in the day. I used to watch replays and study the game to be better every day.
Who or what is your favorite musical artist/band/musician and why?
My favorite band is Mumford and Sons and probably my favorite musician is Bon Iver. I’m a big Indie/Folk guy. Listening to Bon Iver while having a bonfire and beer is my favorite pastime.
If you could get one message out to your fellow EightBit holders, what would it be?
If I could get a message out to the EightBit holders, I would just say to trust the process. It’s cliche to say, and it’s tough to have hope or faith, but this market we’re in is pretty brutal. We haven’t had a macro-environment like this since probably 08, so NFT's in general, being the most volatile asset to invest in possible is an extremely tough time. The team works super hard and they’ve made the right steps so far. I think EightBit is here to stay for years to come if the team and community can keep the faith alive.
